Leadership Team

Samaritan has chosen a leadership model in which most of the key administrative roles are filled by staff who also provide clinical services, ensuring that attention to our mission is present in every aspect of our work.

Executive Director:  Beverley Shrumm, MC, LMHC
Beverley has been President of Samaritan since 2000 and was our Clinical Director for three years previously. She has been in leadership roles in the Pacific Northwest mental health community for more than 25 yearsBeverley is Licensed Mental Health Counselor, providing care for individuals and couples.

Clinical Director:  Matthew Percy, PsyD 
Matt is a Clinical Psychologist who has been a member of Samaritan’s staff since 2014. In addition to overseeing and consulting with all our therapists about clinical issues, Matt provides therapy for youth and children, families and couples.

Director of Operations:  James Ramsey, MA, LMHC 
Jim has been a member of Samaritan’s clinical staff since 2012. He oversees the endless complexities of our physical facilities and unfolding technological challenges. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who sees individuals and couples.

Director of Administrative Services:  Katherine Yoder, MA, LMHC
Katherine joined the Samaritan clinical staff in 2016. She oversees our administrative staff members, who are essential to our mission of providing therapy for the wide-ranging needs of our community. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who provides counseling for individuals.

Community Relations and Marketing Director:  Eric Stroo, MA, LMHC 
Eric has been with Samaritan since 2007. His earlier experience in technical publishing with Microsoft is helpful in his oversight of Samaritan’s public relations and marketing efforts.  He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a MA in Pastoral Counseling, and provides counseling for individuals and cuples.

Director of Testing and Assessment:   Heather MacDonald, PsyD 
Heather came to Samaritan from the Danielson Institute in Boston in 2019.  Hecollaborative approach to assessment is an innovative expansion of the important resource that testing can provide for individuals, children and youth.  She is a Clinical Psychologist, meeting with clients at Samaritan and also teaching at Seattle University.

Senior Accountant:   John Poole
John has been with Samaritan ​since 2019,  He brings valuable experience to this role from his previous work as staff accountant for a CPA firm and from operating his own bookkeeping and tax service company for 16 years.

Board of Directors

Leland Seese, Chair
Lee, who is the pastor at Mount Baker Park Presbyterian Church in Seattle, is serving on our board for a second time. He was a board member previously from 2005 to 2011. In other leadership roles, he has served the Seattle Presbytery as Moderator in 2003 and 2010-2011. In addition, he held positions as Moderator, Permanent Judicial Commission, 2010-2016; and Commissioner, General Assembly, PCUSA, 1994.

Doug Farnham, Treasurer
Doug, who is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Everett, has served earlier on the Samaritan board and was our board chair from 2010 to 2016. He is the sales manager and principal of Centerline Sales & Marketing. In other leadership roles, he has served on the Board of Deacons of Wyoming Presbyterian Church in Wyoming, OH from 1997 to 1999. At Newport Presbyterian Church in Bellevue, he served on the Session from 2004 to 2007 and the Stewardship & Finance Committee from 2004 to 2009.

Bill McIvor, Secretary
Bill is a representative of Rainier Beach Presbyterian Church in Seattle and Newport Presbyterian Church in Bellevue. He is a retired Presbyterian pastor, having served congregations in Bellevue, WA, Birmingham, MI, Spokane, WA, and Sudbury, MA. In other leadership roles, since 1997, he has edited and published SciTech†, the quarterly newsletter/journal of the Presbyterian Association on Science, Technology and the Christian Faith (PASTCF). He also manages the websites for PASTCF and other non-profit organizations.

Colleen Chinen
Colleen is the associate pastor at Steel Lake Presbyterian Church in Federal Way. In other leadership roles, she serves on the Executive Board of Seattle Presbytery and as Moderator of the Nominating Committee. She also served as Co-Moderator for the Committee on Ministry of Seattle Presbytery from 2015-2017, as Moderator of the Stewardship Committee of Steel Lake Presbyterian Church in 2008-2010, 2012, and as Moderator of the Finance Committee of Renton Ecumenical Association of Churches from 2013-2014.

Doug LeRoy
Doug has been a member of Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church on Bainbridge Island for over 45 years, where he has served as an elder on the Session, with he Personnel Committee for 12 years and currently on the Missions Committee.
As a clinical social worker, he was a member of Samaritan’s clinical staff for more than 35 years, sharing in leadership decisions and giving input to the Leadership Team and Board.
Other leadership roles include 30 years as a volunteer with Bainbridge Island Fire Department on the Critical Incident Team and 5 years volunteering at the West Sound Wildlife Shelter.

Liz Covey
Liz is a member of Rainier Beach Presbyterian Church. She is a psychotherapist, consultant and writer who specializes in Attachment and Trauma. She has worked for a decade with families who have experienced severe trauma, using the experiential modalities of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP).

Mary Denny
Mary is a member of University Lutheran Church in Seattle and was a much-valued member of the Samaritan clinical staff from 2006 to 2015. Holding a doctorate in psychology, she also was on the faculty of the UW School of Medicine from 1991 to2010. As a clinician, her specialty was in treating chronic pain. Her other leadership roles include serving on the board of the Elizabeth Gregory Home in Seattle, and as past president and church council member at University Lutheran Church in Seattle.

Scott Lumsden
Scott is a Presbyterian pastor and the Executive Presbyter at the Presbytery of Seattle. He currently serves as an Ex-Officio Member on the Samaritan board.
