My approach to counseling

Habits of mind and body are constantly trying to bring us back to themselves rather than pointing us to possibilities considered beyond our reach. These habits too easily become the soundtrack to our lives, constantly humming in the background, their discouraging melodies drowning out deeper needs and silencing our hope. By helping us see beyond the patterns that no longer serve us counseling can help us begin to activate and sustain that hope. And with hope, possibilities truly abound. The counseling models I use -always client driven- may include Cognitive Behavioral, Integrative-Holistic and Symbolic-Experiential approaches.

I have professional experience with

  • Cross-cultural counseling with individuals, families and couples
  • Extensive experience supporting military couples and families
  • At-risk adolescents
  • Those discouraged by previous therapy experiences

I have forty-five years of experience in clinical program management and supervision, secondary guidance counseling and marriage and family therapy. I have worked at community, state and national levels including tenure on the Executive Board of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
